LGBT India - Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgender People of India
LGBT India is "the apex communication collective of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender groups of India - a network of more than a hundred organisations working for sexual minorities in the country. Founded on the lovers' day, February 14th, 1999, LGBT India was born out of YaariaN '99, the two day National Gay Conference in Hyderabad. LGBT India has since been actively pursuing the establishment and improvement of communication between the myriad LGBT groups within India, and together with them, working towards the ultimate goal of human rights for all LGBT people in India." LGBT India started the annual Friendship Walks, which began in the eastern port city of Calcutta in July 1999 - a walk rather than march to show peaceful solidarity for human rights in commemoration the anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion on June 27-29 that launched the modern gay civil rights movement. "What we are affirming here, is every single human being's fundamental right to love and to be loved."

MCDS - Men Community Development Society
Started by the anti-AIDS non-governmental organisation Indian Community Welfare Organisation (ICWO), the Men Community Development Society was created to provide a safe haven and to address violations of the human rights of homosexual men, assist them to get help from the government, provide them support in times of need, and help them form more such organisations in other districts of Tamil Nadu. The ICWO, which was formed in 1992, has been working with homosexuals since 2000 in its efforts to combat HIV/AIDS.

The Men Community Development Society - which was founded with 300 members and has identified more than 7,000 future members in the city - educates its members about sexually transmitted diseases, particularly HIV/AIDS, empowers them to become financially independent, encourages them to save, and provides them medical help. To address the common grievance of doctors treating homosexuals with disdain, the Society has its own doctor and clinic.
